Bank of Saint Lucia Backs South Calypso Tent
June 11, 2010
Bank of Saint Lucia is throwing its support behind the South Calypso Tent with the recent announcement of its Gold sponsorship of that tent. On Wednesday, just a couple of days ahead of the tent’s official launch at the National Cultural Centre on Friday, June 11th, Tent Leader and Director, Tony Wilkinson, received a cheque for $5000.00. The cheque presentation was made at the Bank of Saint Lucia’s Bridge Street branch by the bank’s Senior Manager for Marketing and Corporate Communications, Maria Fowell. This is the first time that Bank of Saint Lucia is a Gold sponsor of South Calypso Tent although it has supported the tent in the past on a smaller scale.
In accepting the sponsorship cheque, Mr. Wilkinson stated that he was “…very impressed with the bank’s sponsorship, especially in these times”, referring to the economic challenges that are still a reality for the island and which have impacted the business sector. He was excited about the tent’s line up of 15 calypsonians that include 5 female competitors and quite a number of young, talented newcomers.
In her remarks, Bank of Saint Lucia’s Maria Fowell emphasized that the bank’s sponsorship of South Calypso Tent was a strategic decision aimed at “encouraging potential and emerging talent from different parts of the island”. With 5 branches spread across the island, she also said that the bank feels that it has a responsibility to develop the communities in which it operates and its sponsorship of the South Calypso Tent reflects this commitment.
The South Calypso Tent lineup features former Calypso Monarch, Minelle, and its theme for 2010 is ‘Kaiso Showcase with Taste’.
