ECFH SUPPORTS THE MILLET PRIMARY SCHOOL WITH INSIGHTS’

The second publication of ‘Insights’, the Millet Primary School magazine was launched at a ceremony at the school on Wednesday, September 19, 2007.  The magazine, sponsored by the East Caribbean Financial Holding Company Limited, complements the school’s syllabus and encourages academic development by featuring the creativity and imagination of the students from Grades 3 to 6. ‘Insights’ comprises a compilation of short stories, poems, riddles, and other educational material and colourful photos composed by the students and faculty.

The ECFH Group’s sponsorship of “Insights” is in keeping with its corporate social responsibility policy, which among other things, concentrates on providing tangible support for literacy improvement and technical/vocational education programmes, that sustain the development of St Lucian youth under the theme ‘Enriching Lives’.  Co-sponsors Star Publishing Company printed the magazine at a substantially reduced cost.

The ceremony featured addresses by Leonette Jn Pierre, Principal of the Millet Primary School, Anderson Lake, Senior Manager of the ECFH Group, and Marilyn Bain, District Education Officer at the Ministry of Education along with excerpts from the magazine read by the young authors.

In her address, the Principal Mrs. Jn Pierre commended Grade 4 teacher Keiran Prescott and the members of the Magazine Committee for their efforts in gathering and editing the information for the magazine.  “Heartfelt thanks to Bank of Saint Lucia for fully sponsoring the publication of the magazine.  The financial contribution made by the Star Publishing Company is also greatly appreciated” said Mrs. Jn Pierre “The invaluable support of these two business institutions has assisted the school, the community and the country by extension, in promoting literacy.”  She concluded “I urge Bank of Saint Lucia to continue its annual sponsorship of ‘Insights’.  In the same vein, I urge the continued diligence of the staff, students, parents and the community, as the school continues to strive towards meeting the local and global challenges through literacy and education, in the interest of the students; in the interest of all.”

Senior Manager of ECFH Anderson Lake in his address commended the efforts of teacher, Keiran Prescott and Melissa Reynolds of ECFH, who worked diligently to ensure that the magazine was of a good standard.  He urged the students to work hard at improving their reading skills, and to continue their contributions to the magazine. Lake also challenged them to improve the school’s grades in Language Arts to encourage the Group to continue its sponsorship of the magazine.  On behalf of the students, the Principal accepted the challenge, acknowledging it called for even greater effort from students and teachers alike.
