ECFH Supports Nobel Laureate Week “Arts and Craft Fair”
The East Caribbean Financial Holding Company (ECFH) continued where it left off in 2007 in its policy of promoting corporate social responsibility. As the nation celebrated Nobel Laureate’s Week, ECFH lent its support to the Nobel Laureate Week “Arts and Craft Fair” held on Wednesday, 23rd January, 2008 at the Derek Walcott Square. This activity which is expected to form part of the calendar of activities for the event was organized by Saint Lucia’s Nobel Laureate committee.
The aim of the event was to highlight the work and talent of Saint Lucians paying special tribute to the late Sir Arthur Lewis and Honorable Derek Walcott who won noble prizes for Economics and Literature respectively. Several local primary and secondary schools participated including students of the Corinth Secondary School who recited poetry of local writers and sang songs.
Highlighted among these was the George Charles Secondary School led by Vice Principal Wally Alfred local calypsonian. The students gave a good account of themselves and received a resounding ovation.
The East Caribbean Financial Holding Limited also took the opportunity to distribute copies of “Saint Lucian Literature and Theatre An Anthology of Reviews” to schools and members of the public visiting the fair. Some of the schools who received copies included the Ave Maria Primary School, Balata Primary, Patience Combined, Mon Repos Combined School, George Charles Secondary School and Corinth Secondary School. The book which was compiled by John Robert Lee and Kendel Hippolyte provides in-depth reviews of literature and plays by Saint Lucian playwrights and poets dating back over fifty years. The publication of the book was sponsored in part by the Bank of Saint Lucia Limited in 2006.
