Jounen Kweyol

Bon Jounen Kweyol!

kwéyòl the St. Lucian Creole language, is the focus of the observance of Jounen kwéyòl (International Creole Day) on October 28th each year.  Celebrating the island's rich cultural identity, International Creole Month is a time to rejoice with a programme of celebrations, cultural demonstrations and musical performances. Typically celebrated in rural communities where the Creole identity is strongest, one can expect to hear performances, storytelling and music in the lyrical kwéyòl (Creole) language. There is also the opportunity to try tasty kwéyòl  dishes such as fishcakes, bwapain woti (roasted breadfruit) and our national dish - greenfig and saltfish.
