ECFH Gives Deserving Kids A Literary Treat

Over 20 children from the Grow Well Centre and the Holy Family Children’s Home were last Saturday treated like celebrities and accorded the opportunity to rub shoulders with the cast of the Shakespeare production King Lear...thanks to the East Caribbean Financial Holding Company Ltd. (ECFH).

The youngsters were guests of honour at the matinee showing of King Lear by the Shakespeare Globe Theatre at the Gaiety on Rodney Bay on Saturday August 24. The treat was complete with complimentary eats and refreshments.

BOSL, banking subsidiary of ECFH, has been a committed supporter of the Grow Well Centre of Gros Islet and the Holy Family Children’s Home in Ciceron. Support for the Children’s Home began in 2008, and to date both entities have signed two consecutive 3 year covenants, which have assisted greatly in the Home’s mission to care for orphaned and underprivileged children.

The island’s leading financial institution recently supported Grow Well’s Remedial Reading Programme for another consecutive year. The programme provides instruction in the areas of remedial reading, life skills and independent reading, and is designed as a youth development tool to improve the literacy level of Gros Islet Youth.

Maria Fowell, Senior Manager – Marketing & Corporate Communications said: “Youth development through the arts is an integral component of our CSR Policy. We hope to foster a greater appreciation for and interest in the arts by exposing these deserving young people to live theatre of this calibre. BOSL and the wider ECFH will continue in our youth development efforts in the areas of education, sports, the arts and culture. ”

ECFH also took the opportunity to extend kudos to the Cultural Development Foundation, the St. Lucia Tourist Board and the Shakespeare Globe Theatre of London for their collaborative efforts in bringing the highly acclaimed King Lear production to St. Lucia.
